News Story One

GET THE SCOOP! 


A Firefighter Story - Yes!








What news can you write about each month?  Is our school is having a special event, a sports event, a musical - do you have a hobby or sport you would like to share?  Read a good book?  See a good movie?  Write a Review!   Our first news story will unfold on our blog - first your story ideas/plan and sources to be listed.  Then, Gather your information - and interview your sources, or attendees to the event you are writing about, an expert -  Remember, all the things we talked about in class - check your notes - Read Bear Essential News for Kids for ideas and examples of writing pieces - BEGIN!




1) Is my story of interest to others?

2) Where can I find information about my story?

3)  Who can I talk to that has knowledge of my subject?

4)  Can I set up interviews/maybe a phone interview in time?

Keep your Young Reporters Notebook with all your notes/files and story ideas.  Keep track of your contacts and how to reach them.

Subjects to consider;  Interesting People, Visitors at our school, animals, pets, school issues/events - holidays, clubs, scholastic groups - hobbies you do - sports you play, events you attend - travel trips -
Your job is to report and to be informational - you are teaching your reader about the subject.

Your first assignment is to post up your Story Topic, possible Title and two people you could interview - put up in comments by next Wednesday - October 5th.

Next - work on your story - include the 5 W's and H as discussed in class - remember to interview at least 2 sources/people if possible - set up a game plan - set up interviews - visits - etc.

Refer to your Bear Essential News for Kids news papers as examples ... remember what you learned when Mr. Gin gave his presentation.  Look at your notes - what did we talk about in class?
Your news story will be about four or five paragraphs - let people know

Create and edit - take lots of photos - choose 3 or 4 of you favorite - let me know who is in the photograph as discussed in class - share your photos (jpegs) via email - send to Ms. Lane at slane@ridgelineacademy.org -

News Stories due with final edited and reviewed report in your writing portfolio folder - and posted on the blog by Wednesday, October 26th - stories will be shared in class - and also may/may not be sent in for consideration for publication.
